First Male Adder, AP, Eastleigh: |

Posted: 17 Mar 2007 Thursday 15th March - mid afternoon A male adder has been spotted (by yours truly) at a site in Eastleigh, Hampshire. The earliest sighting for the site which is heavily used by local people - bmxing, model cars, dog walking etc Its funny as the bmx track (unofficial) has provided some decent habitat for hibernation and has kept dog walkers away - this is the main area to find adders on the site DIY banks have now covered in rough grassland and brambles which is where the adders choose to bask! A management plan has been written for the site with the adders in mind as the site is a SINC for adders

Posted: 17 Mar 2007 In that situation you do not need to capture any of the animals as this draws attention to them - lots of kids and other persons who would take an interest in someone capturing something - so I tend to walk through with a monocular for spotting the animals at a distance.
